Zatoichi, ein blinder Masseur, wird von einer Gruppe Söldnern auf dem Land verfolgt. Nachdem er inmitten einer Gruppe von sehbehinderten Menschen Zuflucht gesucht hatte, setzte er seine Flucht in einem Wagen fort. Auf der Straße kreuzt seine Wege, die Pfade einer jungen Frau und ihrem Kind. Wohltätig, lässt Zatoichi sein Fahrzeug bei ihnen und geht zu Fuß weiter. Aber seine Angreifer, die ihm immer noch im Wagen vermuteten, durchbohrten ihn mit ihren Speeren und töteten die Frau. Zatoichi nimmt das Kind daraufhin unter seine Fittiche und unternimmt eine lange Reise, um es zu seinem Vater zurückzubringen. . . .
