Dans le Japon féodal, de jeunes nobles sont décidés à se rebeller contre la corruption pour s’affranchir du chambellan. Violent et désenchanté, le samouraï Sanjuro est touché par leur combat et décide de les aider. Son esprit étant aussi affuté que son sabre, Sanjuro devient bientôt le chef du clan.
