Charley Varrick est un ancien voltigeur reconverti en gangster de petite envergure. Epaulé par sa femme Nadine et ses deux complices, il braque une petite banque du Nouveau-Mexique, espérant en tirer une somme correcte. Mais le hold-up tourne au vinaigre lorsque Nadine et l’un de ses acolytes sont criblés de balles. Charley se rend alors compte que le butin qu’il a réussi à voler est en fait une énorme somme d’argent. Il comprend que la banque était utilisée par la mafia pour blanchir de l’argent. Ne voulant pas courir de risques supplémentaires, Charley est décidé à rendre l’argent. Mais Harman, son seul complice restant, est bien décidé à garder le magot.
Note : Tuez Charley Varrick ! est le film qui a inspiré Pulp Fiction (1994) à Quentin Tarantino.
