1996. À Téhéran, le réalisateur Mohsen Makhmalbaf reçoit la visite d’un homme qu’il ne connaît pas. Celui-ci est un ancien policier et tient à jouer dans son prochain film. En réalité, les deux hommes se sont déjà rencontrés. Il y a vingt ans, Mohsen Makhmalbaf participe à une manifestation contre le Shah lorsqu’il blesse au couteau un policier. Il sera condamné à plusieurs années de prison. Suite à leurs retrouvailles, le réalisateur lui propose que chacun tourne un film qui reconstitue l’évènement selon leur point de vue.
