Im Pariser Hotel Concorde St. Lazare hat sich eine Gruppe von Detektiven eingenistet, die heimlich die anderen Gäste ausspähen – den Piloten Emíle Chenal, den Box-Promoter Jim Warner, seinen Schützling Tiger Jones und die barbusige Prinzessin der Bahamas. Vor allem aber interessieren sich die Detektive für den Mafia-Boss The Prince, dessen kriminelle Mitarbeiter offenbar das ganze Hotel unter ihre Kontrolle gebracht haben.
Hinweis: Godards brillanter Genre-Mix ist eine Hommage an den Film Noir. Die Mischung aus Banalität und Absurdität, die gerade in ihrer Kombination einen lakonischen Humor entwickelt, lässt den Meister der Nouvelle Vague in einem neuen Licht erscheinen. Erster Auftritt der damals grade einmal 14-jährigen Julie Delpy (Die Gräfin, Before Sunrise).
