Der junge Léo Lauzon lebt in den Armenvierteln von Montreal, umgeben von einer Familie, deren Mitglieder einen Aufenthalt nach dem anderen in einer psychiatrischen Klinik verbringen. Um aus diesem Alltag auszubrechen, flüchtet der Junge in seine eigene Welt, in der er sich Léolo nennt, oder zu Bianca, einer jungen italienischen Nachbarin, in die er sich verliebt.
