1942, während der Besatzungszeit, wird ein britischer Bomber über Paris abgeschossen. Die Besatzungsmitglieder sind gezwungen, mit dem Fallschirm abzuspringen. Einer von ihnen landet auf dem Dach der Oper, bevor er in der Garderobe eines Dirigenten, Stanislas Lefort, Zuflucht findet. Ein anderer landet auf dem Gestell eines Malers. Die beiden Franzosen fühlen sich verpflichtet zu helfen, die Soldaten in die freie Zone zu begleiten.
Hinweis : Nachdem Louis de Funès bereits in Louis – Das Schlitzohr gemeinsam mit Bourvil ein Millionenpublikum begeisterte, gelang es ihnen mit dem Gagfeuerwerk in Die große Sause, diesen außergewöhnlichen Erfolg sogar zu übertreffen.
