Hinweis: Der Film gilt als Charles Chaplins "Testamentfilm" mit einer Vorbereitungszeit von zweieinhalb Jahren. Obwohl der Film 1952 veröffentlicht wurde, erhielt Chaplin 1973 den Oscar für die beste Musik. Als Opfer des McCarthyismus ging der Filmemacher ins europäische Exil, und der Film kam erst zwanzig Jahre später in den USA heraus.
