Mitsou, vedette de cabaret, est entretenue par un riche industriel dans le Paris de la Première Guerre mondiale. Lors d'une représentation de son spectacle patriotique, elle dissimule deux officiers et tombe aussitôt amoureuse de l’un d’eux, le Lieutenant Robert Bleu, un homme de bonne famille. Face à l'écart de classe sociale entre elle, jeune femme des bas-fonds parisiens, et son amoureux, elle décide, avec l’aide de son protecteur, de se transformer en une femme du monde.
Note : Il s'agit de la troisième œuvre de Colette adaptée par Jacqueline Audry, après Gigi (1949) et Minne, l'ingénue libertine (1950).
