Simon est fou amoureux d’Ariane, avec qui il partage un somptueux appartement parisien. Extrêmement jaloux, il la questionne sans cesse et la fait suivre dans ses moindres déplacements. Pour autant, Simon n'est pas tranquille et suspecte sa compagne d’être attirée par les femmes...
Note : Librement inspiré du roman La Prisonnière de Marcel Proust, le film est remarqué à la Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, où Chantal Akerman avait été découverte en 1975 avec Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles.
