Claude Ferjac, puissant armateur breton, impose sa loi au village côtier qui dépend de lui. Sa fille Simone partage en secret un amour profond avec le capitaine Jacques de Saint-Ermond, contraint d’embarquer sur un navire lancé dans une traversée périlleuse.
