Ein Chirurg, Professor Génessier, ist für den Autounfall verantwortlich, seitdem seine Tochter Christiane völlig entstellt ist. Seit dem Drama lebt Christiane eingesperrt, wie ein verletzter Vogel in einem goldenen Käfig. Ihr Vater, der seitdem mit Schuldgefühlen leben muss, hat beschlossen seine medizinischen Recherchen auf Hauttransplantationen zu richten. Mit der Hilfe von Louise, seiner hingebungsvollen Assistentin, lockt Professor Génessier schöne und unschuldige junge Mädchen in das Labor, das sich in seinem Garten befindet. Geschützt vor indiskreten Blicken führt er dort sadistische chirurgische Eingriffe durch, um die Hautstücke zu entnehmen, die für die Rekonstruktion des Gesichts seiner geliebten Tochter nötig sind. Christiane, die mit einer Maske auf dem Gesicht lebt, kann es kaum erwarten ihre einstige Schönheit wiederzuerlangen. Aber sie weiß noch nichts von den schrecklichen Methoden ihres Vaters… Hinweis: Augen ohne Gesicht ist die Adaptation des gleichnamigen Romans von Jean Redon aus dem Jahr 1962. Es gab ein Remake des Films vom Filmemacher Jesús Franco im Jahr 1962 mit dem Titel L'Horrible Docteur Orlof sowie eine Fortsetzung im Jahr 1988 mit dem Titel Les Prédateurs de la nuit.
