Gabrielle Van Der Mal intègre un couvent à Bruxelles pour y suivre des cours de médecine. C’est une jeune femme rebelle, qui se heurte à l’autorité de la Mère Supérieure. Une fois ses études terminées, elle s’envole pour le Congo pour assister le docteur Fortunati. C’est face aux blessés et aux malades qu’elle prend conscience de ce qu’elle désire au plus profond d’elle-même. Mais osera-t-elle aller au bout de ses convictions ?
