Luc Moullet

Luc Moullet

  • French director, born in Paris in 1937.

Luc Moullet started out at nineteen as a critic at Cahiers du Cinéma. In 1960, Jean-Luc Godard offered to direct his first short film, Un Steak Trop Cuit, which he shot at home on a shoestring budget. He later tirelessly alternated his activities as a director, producer (Nathalie Granger by Duras) and critic, publishing essays on Fritz Lang, King Vidor or Cecil B. DeMille, as well as the landmark film Politique des Acteurs, in 1993. His body of work is a combination of autobiographical essays and lessons on unusual topics and comprises around forty films, short films or features, including Anatomy of a Relationship, Origins of a Meal, My First Breaststroke and The Comedy of Work, all of which are cult films for many cinephiles. His particularly singular work gave rise to a retrospective at the Pompidou Center in 2009.
