De retour d’un voyage aux confins de la galaxie, le cargo spatial Nostromo ramène ses membres d’équipage sur Terre. Un signal de détresse, émanant d’un planétoïde tout proche, les tire de leur sommeil artificiel. Intrigués, les équipiers décident de se poser sur une planète n'indiquant aucune trace de vie à l'exception d'un vaisseau abandonné où se développe une couvée pour le moins étrange. Lorsque l'un des équipiers est agressé par une des créatures contenues dans les œufs, l’équipage découvre la vérité : le signal n’est pas un appel à l’aide mais une mise en garde destinée aux malheureux voyageurs. Pris en chasse par cette forme de vie inconnue, ils devront désormais se battre pour assurer leur survie.
Notes : Alien le Huitième passager est le tout premier épisode d'une saga de 5 épisodes (dont un prequel).
