Brewster McCloud est un jeune homme original qui s’est enfermé dans son sous-sol pour se fabriquer des ailes qui, tel Icare, lui permettront de fuir les préoccupations terrestres. Il compte un bon nombre d’ennemis, que son amie Louise se charge de tenir à distance. Mais certains de ses détracteurs sont bientôt retrouvés morts, le visage recouvert de fiente d’oiseau, et Brewster devient le suspect numéro un.
