Es ist Heiligabend in einem französischen Dorf in den Alpen. Wie jedes Jahr ist Cornusse als Weihnachtsmann verkleidet. Er lebt mit seiner Tochter Catherine, die bei schlechter Gesundheit ist. Ihr Nachbar, der geheimnisvolle Baron, ist gerade von seiner Weltreise zurückgekehrt, auf der er hoffte, die wahre Liebe zu finden.
