Willy Ferriere ist völlig pleite und seine Geliebte ist sehr kostspielig. Eines Tages sagt er in einer Kneipe, dass er 100.000 Francs geben würde, um seine reiche Tante loszuwerden. Jemand lässt ihn wissen, dass es ein Geschäft ist. Die Tante wird ermordet und ein armer Schlucker wird zum perfekten Verdächtigen gemacht. Aber Hauptkommissar Maigret spürt, dass etwas nicht stimmt.
