Lady Barker, épouse esseulée, se rend à Paris où elle rend visite à une vieille amie. Elle y rencontre un homme, à qui elle ne donne pas son identité et qui l’invite à passer la soirée avec lui. Le déroulement du rendez-vous est idéal, mais Lady Barker disparaît et rentre à Londres, où son mari va rencontrer par hasard Anthony Halton, de retour de Paris et qui se trouve être l’amant en question…
