Vétérinaire marin à Hawaii, Henry Roth mène une vie simple et collectionne les aventures sans lendemain. Sa rencontre avec Lucy Whitmore, dont il tombe immédiatement sous le charme, fait basculer son existence. Mais la jeune femme souffre d’une surprenante forme d’amnésie qui va pousser Henry à redoubler d’ingéniosité pour la séduire malgré tout.
