Bertrand Tavernier
- French director, born in Lyon in 1941. - After moving to Paris after the war, Bertrand Tavernier cofounded the film club Nickel Odéon and contributed to various magazines, particularly Positif and Les Cahiers du Cinéma. He worked as a press agent for the producer Georges de Beauregard, then as an independent. Passionate about American cinema, he published a collection of interviews and several notable books on the subject (Amis Américains: Entretiens avec les Grands Auteurs d'Hollywood and 50 Ans de Cinéma Américain). His first feature film, The Clockmaker, received the Silver Bear in Berlin in 1974. A rich œuvre of over twenty-five feature films of widely varying genres was to follow: period films (Let Joy Reign Supreme, 'Round Midnight, Life and Nothing But), detective films (L.627, Fresh Bait) or more intimist-style films (A Sunday in the Country, Daddy Nostalgia). His films have been awarded many prizes in France and abroad.
