Ancien capitaine de l’armée, Will Lockhart exerce désormais le métier de convoyeur de marchandises. Ses nouvelles fonctions le mènent de Laramie jusqu’à Coronado, une petite ville du Nouveau Mexique. Son voyage est également motivé par la poursuite d’un trafiquant vendant des armes aux Apaches et indirectement responsable de la mort de son frère. Will ne tarde pas à comprendre que la ville de Coronado est aux mains de Dave Waggoman, le fils tyrannique du grand propriétaire terrien de la région, qui fait régner sa loi à l’aide de son contremaître Vic Hansbro. Aidé de Kate Canaday la dernière irréductible à résister aux Waggoman, Will Lockhart décide de s’attarder dans la région.
