A New York, Gus, Harry et Archie, trois inséparables amis, se retrouvent à l’enterrement du quatrième membre de la bande. Ces quarantenaires mariés et pères de famille ont du mal à faire passer la peine. Même une nuit de beuverie n’y fait rien. Quand sur un coup de tête Harry décide de partir à Londres, les deux autres le suivent sans réfléchir. Arrivés sur place, c’est le début de trois jours de débauche, ponctués de rencontres féminines et de règlements de comptes.
Notes : Husbands est le premier film dans lequel apparaissent Peter Falk et Ben Gazzara, qui deviendront les comédiens fétiches de John Cassavates. Le film marque aussi le passage du réalisateur à la couleur.
