Jake VanDorn, un industriel prospère et fervent calviniste du Michigan, voit sa vie basculer lorsque sa fille unique, Kristen, disparaît lors d’un voyage en Californie organisé par l’église. Livré à lui-même face à l’inaction de la police, il engage un détective privé. Ce dernier découvre que Kristen est tombée dans le monde clandestin de la pornographie. Déchiré entre ses convictions religieuses et son amour paternel, VanDorn se lance dans une descente aux enfers : sous une fausse identité, il infiltre l’industrie du X, prêt à tout pour retrouver sa fille.
