Zwei Freunde, Paul und Marcus, sind alle beide unzufrieden mit ihrem Liebesleben. Der Erste, Schauspieler und bald Vater eines zweiten Kindes, begreift, dass er seine Frau Fanchon nicht mehr liebt. Der Zweite, Schriftsteller, wurde von Hélène verlassen und kann nicht mehr schreiben. Um sie wiederzufinden, nimmt Marcus Paul mit auf seine Flucht nach Rom. In der italienischen Hauptstadt wollen die zwei erschöpften Fünfzigjährigen versuchen ihrem Liebesleben neues Leben einzuhauchen…
