Quatre ans après le fléau de Jurassic Park, le milliardaire John Hammond fait de nouveau appel au mathématicien Ian Malcolm. Il souhaite que celui-ci rejoigne l’équipe de scientifiques venus observer des centaines de dinosaures sur une île. L’expédition est composée du photographe Nick Van Owen, du technicien Eddie Carr et surtout de la fiancée d’Ian, la zoologue Sarah Harding. Ian accepte de se rendre sur l’île, mais il ne se doute pas qu’ils devront affronter un autre groupe, venu dans le but de capturer les dinosaures.
Note : le film est le deuxième volet de la saga Jurassic Park, qui a été notamment inspirée par Le Monde perdu, réalisé par Harry O. Hoyt en 1924.
