Der iranische Regisseur Makhmalbaf plant, anlässlich der Hundertjahrfeier des Kinos einen Film zu drehen. Als jedoch eine Schar von Schauspielern und Schauspielerinnen zum Casting erscheint, beschließt er, einen Dokumentarfilm über die Verwirklichung seines Projekts zu drehen. Er beginnt damit, jeden der Teilnehmer vor der Kamera zu befragen, was ihn dazu bewegt, in einem Film mitzuspielen.
