Franck Carveth élève seul sa petite fille et vit séparé de son épouse Nola depuis que cette dernière a choisi de suivre le traitement psychothérapique révolutionnaire du docteur Raglan. Cette nouvelle thérapie, la psychoprotoplasmie, permet à ses patients d’extérioriser leurs troubles mentaux par des manifestations organiques telles que des plaies, des pustules ou des tumeurs.
