Um seinen 17 Geburtstag zu feiern, nimmt Manuela ihren Sohn Esteban mit ins Theater, um seine Lieblingsschauspielerin Huma Roja in einer Adaptation von Un tramway nommé désir von Tennessee Williams zu sehen. Nach der Vorführung erzählt sie ihm zu ersten Mal von seinem Vater, ein Tabuthema, und verrät ihm, dass sie vor dem letzteren vor seiner Geburt das gleiche Stück gespielt hat. Einige Minuten später, als er ein Autogramm von Huma haben möchte, wird Esteban im strömenden Regen von einem Auto umgefahren. Um das Andenken ihres Sohnes zu feiern mach sich Manuela auf die Suche nach seinem Vater, früher Esteban genannt, aber heute mit dem Namen Lola…
