Paris, 1941. Maurice, treize ans, et Joseph, dix ans, sont deux frères de confession juive dans la capitale occupée. Joseph, qui ne comprend pas pourquoi sa communauté est rejetée, échange l’étoile qu’il porte à ses vêtements contre un sac de billes. Bientôt, la situation devient trop dangereuse et les deux garçons doivent fuir vers la zone libre.
