Le colonel Thursday est envoyé en Arizona pour prendre le commandement de Fort Apache. Ignorant tout des tactiques indiennes et faisant preuve d’un grand mépris à l’égard des Apaches, Thursday va vite s’opposer au capitaine York...
Note : le film est inspiré de la célèbre bataille de Little Big Horn perdue par le général Custer contre les Sioux.
