Stanislaw, atteint de tuberculose, vient s’installer chez son frère Boleslaw dans une maison au fond des bois. Ce dernier vit seul avec sa petite fille, meurtri depuis la mort de sa femme. Stanislaw qui se sait condamné est bien décidé à profiter pleinement de ses derniers instants et redonne le goût de la vie à ce frère mort-vivant.
