Chronique de la vie d'un tueur en série et escroc, Iwao Enoziku, de son premier meurtre à sa capture en janvier 1964. Poursuivi à travers tout le Japon, aidé par sa maîtresse, la tenancière d'une maison close, il se joue de la police en leur échappant durant de longues semaines de traque.
Note : le film est basé sur la vie du meurtrier Akira Nishiguchi et sur un livre de Ryuzo Saki.
