Originaire de Suède, Astrée tombe sous le charme de l’île de Porto Rico lors d’un voyage touristique avec sa tante. Elle décide d’y rester et épouse un homme influent contre l’avis de sa famille. Quelques années plus tard, le rêve tourne au cauchemar quand cet homme se révèle maladivement jaloux et autoritaire. Astrée tente alors de s’enfuir vers l’Europe avec son fils.
