Marius a cédé à l’appel de la mer, délaissant son père et sa fiancée, Fanny, qui attend un enfant de lui. Au bord du déshonneur, elle se résout à épouser Panisse, veuf qui a toujours rêvé d’avoir un héritier. Il élève le petit Césariot jusqu’au retour de Marius, convaincu de son amour pour Fanny.

Note : Fanny est l’adaptation du deuxième volet de la trilogie marseillaise de Marcel Pagnol. Le premier volet, réalisé par Alexandre Korda, est intitulé Marius (1931). Le troisième, César (1936), a été réalisé par Marcel Pagnol.
