Chicago, 1929. Joe, saxophoniste et Jerry, contrebassiste, sont témoins d’un meurtre barbare commandité par la mafia. Se sachant recherchés par les gangsters, ils décident de changer d’identité et de quitter la ville. Ils se travestissent en femmes, Joséphine et Daphné, et intègrent un orchestre féminin en route pour une série de concerts en Floride. A peine installés dans le train, les deux hommes ont bien du mal à contenir leurs ardeurs devant la sensuelle et naïve joueuse de ukulélé prénommée Sugar.
