Thomas Cailley
French director, born in Clermont-Ferrand in 1980.
Thomas Cailley initially took a detour via the production of documentary films, before finding in writing and directing his preferred means of expression. He entered the Fémis in 2007, in the scriptwriting department, while simultaneously directing a short film – Paris Shanghai (2011) – which was warmly received on the festival circuit. In 2014, his first feature film, Love at First Fight was widely hailed by audiences and critics: having already won an award at the Directors’ Fortnight, the film was also crowned with three Césars (Best Actress, Best Female Revelation, Best First Film). Four years later, he tried his hand at a new format with Ad Vitam, which won the prize for Best French Series at Série Mania. In 2023, The Animal Kingdom – a multi-César-winning film – pursued some of the filmmaker’s favourite themes, such as freedom, transfers of knowledge and our relationship with living things.
