Bong Joon-Ho

  • South-Korean director born in Seoul in 1969

    After studying sociology at the Yonsei University, Bong Joon-Ho entered the Korean Academy of Film Arts to attend film studies. His first film, Barking Dog, released in 2000, threw attention on him. His next film, Memories of Murder (2003) was a commercial and critical success in South Korea. The Host marked a big step in his career for it was a hit in Korea and a number of foreign countries. Bong Joon-Ho then participated with directors Leos Carax and Michel Gondry to a triptych film named Tokyo! In 2009, Mother was selected in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2013, he directed his first English-language film, Snowpiercer, based on the graphic novel, Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette.
