Gérard ist ein arbeitsloser Ingenieur. Seine Frau Gabrielle, eine ultra-engagierte Feministin, hat ihn verlassen, und er steht allein da, um seinen Sohn Pierrot aufzuziehen. Gérard lernt Valérie kennen, eine Kindergärtnerin, die bei ihm einzieht. Das Paar baut sich allmählich auf und Valerie fühlt eine mütterliche Bindung zu Pierrot. Aber Gerard wird übermäßig eifersüchtig und seine Partnerin leidet unter seiner aggressiven Sexualität und seinem gewalttätigen Verhalten.
