Ein Strand in der Bretagne, ein Nachmittag im August. An der Gezeitenlinie beginnt ein 45 Jahre alter Mann mit dem Bau einer Sandburg. Von verschiedenen Teilen des Strandes aus beobachten ihn drei Personen: Jumbo, ein kleiner Junge, der sich unter einem Tretboot versteckt, François, der jüngere Bruder des Burgbauers, und Zaza, die Schwester der beiden Männer.
