A la fin du XIXe siècle, en Chine, la princesse Pei Pei est capturée et emmenée aux Etats-Unis. Un garde impérial, Chon Wang, décide d’aller la sauver. Il découvre alors l’Ouest américain, ses indiens et ses bandits, et fait la rencontre d’un sympathique hors-la-loi, Roy O'Bannon, avec qui il décide de s’allier.
