Alice Winocour

Alice Winocour

  • Alice Winocour, French director and scriptwriter born in 1976 in Paris.

After studying law, Alice Winocour joined the Fémis scriptwriting section, an activity that she pursued alongside her directorial activities (notably for Mustang, César for Best Script in 2016). She passed behind the camera in 2005 with the short film Kitchen, in which the battle between two lobsters ready to be cooked becomes a metaphor for the couple. Here, we already see an interest in bodies put to the test, a recurrent theme in her work, with Augustine (2012), her first feature, based on the figure of the neurologist Charcot, and Revoir Paris (2022) about the traumatisms left by the 2015 attacks. Winocour also pays particular attention to the relationships between the body and science, as in Proxima (2019), in which she narrates the life of women astronauts or, more recently, Sound of Neuron, a short film with Vincent Lindon set at the Paris Brain Institute. Couture (2026), featuring Angelina Jolie and Louis Garrel, is a dive behind the scenes of the milieu of Parisian haute-couture. Her films regularly receive accolades at festivals, notably across the Atlantic.
