French actor and director, born in 1958 in Oran (Algeria).
After starting his career in radio, as a host and comic, Alain Chabat joined Canal+ in 1984 where he formed Les Nuls with Bruno Carette, Chantal Lauby and Dominique Farrugia. The quartet created Le JTN, a parodic news broadcast, which become the channel’s trademark. In 1994, they starred together in the now cult classic La Cité de la Peur by Alain Berbérian. He then launched a career as a solo actor, notably in Josiane Balasko’s French Twist or Agnès Jaoui’s The Taste of Others. In 1997, he directed Didier, in which he plays a dog transformed into a human, which won the César for Best First Film. His adaptation of Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra was a huge public and critical success.
He now alternates between activities as a director and a producer, while pursuing his acting career, notably in Quentin Dupieux’s Reality, in 2015.
