Susan Weinblatt est une jeune photographe new-yorkaise. Elle vit en colocation avec une amie, Anne Munroe, écrivaine. Mais Anne doit quitter l’appartement lorsqu’elle se marie avec son compagnon, Martin, et les deux amies se perdent de vue. Susan, qui rêve d’exposer ses photographies dans une galerie, se sent soudainement très seule…
