Clarence Worley est un jeune vendeur dans une boutique de bandes dessinées. Alors qu’il fête son anniversaire au cinéma devant des films de kung-fu, il fait la rencontre de la pulpeuse Alabama. Tous deux tombent follement amoureux et passent la nuit ensemble. Mais au petit matin, Alabama avoue à Clarence qu’elle est en fait une escort-girl envoyée comme cadeau anniversaire par son patron. Ils décident alors de sceller leur amour et se marient sur le champ. Clarence se rend chez Drexel, le proxénète d’Alabama, pour récupérer les affaires de sa belle. La confrontation dérape et il tue Drexel avant de prendre la fuite avec la mallette qu’il croit appartenir à Alabama. Lorsque les deux amants ouvrent le sac, ils découvrent qu’ils sont en possession de dizaine de kilos de cocaïne…
