Der Schwindler Matko führt mit seinem Sohn ein zwielichtiges Leben an der Donau. Als er einen großen Auftrag plant, überredet er den örtlichen Paten der Zigeunergemeinschaft, ihm die nötigen Mittel zu leihen. Nichts läuft nach Plan, als er sich zur gleichen Zeit mit dem kokainsüchtigen Gangster Dadan einlässt. Letzterer hält den naiven Matko leicht zum Narren, der gezwungen ist, seinen Sohn zu verheiraten, um seine Schulden zu begleichen.
