George, père de la future Elizabeth II, souffre de bégaiement et n’a pas l’étoffe d’un roi. Quand son frère abdique, il n’a d’autre choix que de monter sur le trône. Dans un contexte de guerre contre les nazis, George doit surmonter ses peurs, aidé par la détermination de son épouse et d’un thérapeute aux méthodes drastiques.
Note : Le film remporte quatre récompenses aux Oscars en 2011 : celui du meilleur film, du meilleur acteur, du meilleur scénario et du meilleur réalisateur.
