Don Giulio, Pfarrer auf einer Insel vor Italien, muss sein kleines Paradies verlassen. Er muss nun zu einer Gemeinde in einem Vorort von Rom stoßen, wohin er versetzt wurde. In der großen Stadt findet er jedoch seine Familie wieder und seine alten Freunde. Er hält Gottesdienste ab in seiner kleinen Kapelle, in Abwesenheit von Gläubigen und noch nutzloser kommt er sich vor durch die Ablehnung seiner Hilfe durch seine Nahestehenden, die durchaus mit ihren Problemen kämpfen. Aber Don Giulio erträgt mit seinem autoritären Altruismus nicht, dass jemand in seiner Nähe nicht glücklich ist. Seine manchmal handfesten Methoden werden nicht ohne gewisse Schwierigkeiten angenommen…
