Davy Brandon assiste à la mort de son père. L'homme est tué par un Indien alors qu'il déterminait le tracé du passage d'une voie de chemin de fer à Monument Valley. Vingt ans plus tard, Davy est engagé comme ingénieur pour la compagnie Union Pacific afin de poursuivre le travail de son père là où il l'avait laissé. Il décide d'enquêter pour retrouver la trace de son meurtrier.
