The film is a tension-filled parable about the power of order, cruelty and submissive behaviour. A young man arrives at a falconers' plant for summer exercise. The plant stands in the middle of barren land, secluded from everything and managed by the fanatic Lilik, keeping rigorous discipline. Besides him and the falconers only Teréz lives there. The Boy learns the tasks at the plant and is captivated by the elementary force and beauty of the flight of the falcons. Yet he is more and more abhorred by the spiritual terror and the barbaric order used by Lilik to subdue his men. He endures the man-probing hunt but releases the captured falcon in the end. Teréz and the Boy are attracted to each other but she is unable to break out. After a mighty, devastating storm, the Boy packs his belongings and leaves. The others stay.
